As parents, we know how frustrating it is to do those repetitive tasks like dishes, laundry, picking up toys, and changing diapers only to turn around and do it again a short time later. One of our favorite parts of the Change 3 Things challenge is you can take one of those repetitive tasks and turn it into an opportunity to create lasting impact that your two year old can’t undo in five minutes.
To celebrate, today we will be giving away prize packs that will each include a Flip diaper cover with Stay Dry Insert, a Change 3 Things t-shirt, a Change 3 Things silicone band and 25 Change 3 Things Share Cards.
To enter today's contest, visit the Change 3 Things Facebook page (if you haven't already), and leave a comment here on the blog telling us the main reason why you chose to cloth diaper - is it for the cost savings, environmental impact or another reason?

ReplyDeleteWe started using cloth for health reasons. My son always had diaper rash from disposables. When we switched I realized how much trash we were throwing away and how much money we were spending (and then throwing away)!
I still spend quite a bit on cloth diapers (its an addiction!) but at least I can reuse them!

ReplyDeleteWe originally started cloth diapering to save money. Boy did I "see into the future" with that one. We weren't really doing bad for ourselves when we switched. I'm just cheap and didn't see the need to pay for disposables anymore. Little did we know that my husband would be laid off and then we REALLY needed that saved money. It was s...o nice not having to worry about how we were going to pay for diapers (for 2) on top of the other things we had to worry about during that time (he was our only source of income). I've been cloth diapering for about 2 years now, and I do it for so many more reasons...the cuteness, the money savings, being "green," keeping "crap" off of my kids bodies, etc, etc, etc. I just love cloth diapering as as my youngest gets older and older, I want to have another child just to keep my cloth diapers in use...ha, ha.

We just recently made the switch to cloth diapers after my 16 month old was wetting through disposables every night and waking up wet. We tried everything (even two diapers at once) and every brand with no luck. A fellow adoptive mama recommended we try cloth so I ordered a bumgenius 4.0 to give it a try. She told me about how much money she had saved using cloth full-time which got me very interested because we are in ministry so every penny counts. I crunched the numbers and realized how much money we would save in the next year, and we decided to make the switch. We have been using prefolds with the 4.0 at night for two weeks now, and I love it. I am so excited about the money we are saving because we are beginning our next adoption journey so all the money we save will go toward bringing our little one (or ones!) home and then we can reuse the diapers with them!

And I like how big her butt looks. =) I never have to worry about running out of diapers...even if they are all dirty, I know I can use a receiving blanket or something and a snappi and be completely ok until the laundry is done.

ReplyDeleteI am so glad to say that I started cloth diapering with my first child at 6 weeks old FULL TIME (I wanted to start sooner but she was a preemie and just too tiny). We made the decision to use cloth while I was pregnant. My husband and I both felt it was important because it was the best thing for our child, the enviroment and our checkbook. Some people think we're crazy. We hear things like "it won't last" all the time. But we're commited to it, and it's become a total hobby for me. I love it and I'm addicted! I assure you...it will last :)

I'm a fan on facebook and entered. We started using cloth because of many reasons. The most important reason was that I didn't want my baby exposed to the chemicals in disposables. I don't need a diaper to change colors to tell me when it needs to be changed! The added bonus is that our initial investment will last through babies to come. I love that my children will all grow up in cloth!
ReplyDeletewillisjen (at) gmail dot com

ReplyDeleteThe main reason we use cloth diapers is the waste disposables create. The money saving aspect is a perk. I like knowing that in 1,000 years when they dig up a land fill, it won't be my babies poo they're finding wrapped in plastic and chemicals!

ReplyDeleteI liked your FB page and posted that I switched to cloth because I wanted to save money!
ReplyDeleteI started cloth diapering without the support or education from anyone else. I didn't know anyone who used 'modern' cloth and my husband wanted nothing to do with cloth diapers. I was interested in the cost savings, environmental benefits, health benefits, and you can't ignore the cute fluffy bottoms. I kind of went in to it blindly and have learned so much over the last 3 years. My son (now 3 yr old) started in cloth around 1 month old. Now he is potty training and my daughter has been in cloth since birth 10 months ago. And now hubby loves the cute cloth bums! :)
ReplyDeleteMy main reason for cloth is cost savings, and they're just so cute!! My baby girl is due in 4 weeks, so I'm hopeful it works out as well as I anticipate!

I originally switched to cloth to save money, I had used disposables on my first, now 4, and knew how expensive they were. I was nervous at first but now after 9mo I would not even think of using anything else. Now I love the colors, the convenience, the lack of rashes, and the fact that I am helping the environment as well as saving money.
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan on facebook, committing to the challenge.
ReplyDeleteI started cloth diapering because a friend of mine showed me how modern and easy the "new cloth diapers" were. I wanted to do my part in helping the environment and also the cost savings are huge. Luckily I found out about them early on (when my daughter was about 1 month) and I didn't use disposables for very long. Now I love it so much and am so happy with my decision. I get really excited when I meet other mothers my age and talk to them about cloth diapering and watching their views on it change over the conversation. Hopefully, I can be like my friend, and let others who know nothing about cloth diapers the joys and wonders of cloth diapering!
We have lots of reasons for cloth diapering, but a lot of it comes down to not having to run to the store for another pack of diapers when we realize we're running low -- it feels lazier to just head to the basement and start a load of laundry!
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan on fb and started using cloth diapers to save money and because they are cute!
ReplyDeletechasearthurs@gmail.com
it was two-fold for us: saving money and the environment.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the confusion. I edited the blog post a bit ago to clarify.

ReplyDeleteMy Mom introduced me to cloth diapers before my daughter was born. I was skeptical at first, but now I am completely obsessed! I cloth diaper because it's cheaper, better for the environment, better for my daughter's skin and -bonus!- it turned out to be really fun. I'm so happy to be a full-time cloth diapering mama and I tell as many friends as I can about the wonderful benefits of cloth diapers.

I chose cloth diapering because I think it is so much fun! I love having all the color and style options, because I am able to coordinate outfits with the diapers! I also chose cloth diapering because in the long run I am saving do much money! I did not think about the environmental factor until I saw a dirty paper diaper thrown in an unpurchased purse in a store! I was so disgusted, I vowed to never use paper diapers! Also, cloth diapering is really easy :) I enjoy it overall
ReplyDeleteI absolutely need a new flip cover! The best nighttime diaper! My name is Nichole Lobdell on Facebook... We originally did cloth to be green, but my husband got on board for money savings and convenience. No late night runs to the grocery store :) He is constantly pulling out our diapers and showing them off to strangers. I made a convert in 3 Weeks and have been going strong for almost 2 years :) We'll only stop to potty train. Now I'm looking for economical trainers :)
ReplyDeleteCathy Brown: our reasons were both environmental and cost savings.. this is our first baby. I"m excited but my husband took a little convincing. i hear the Flip's will work well for us. hope so! (i hope this puts us in the drawing for the give away! we regersited for the Flips and havent gotten any yet :(

I fanned C3T a couple weeks ago. We use cloth primarily for the cost savings, but I am pretty excited about the environmental impact, the cuteness factor, and the fact that my baby's tushy is not sitting in chemicals 24/7. I now find disposables pretty disgusting...funny, huh?

I will be happy to join Change 3 Things once my baby is born. Looking back to when my DD was born, I wish I would have known about the BumGenius, Flip, and Econobum diapers. I just prepped my stash today that includes all three and cannot wait to CD. The number one reason was economical for me and convenience. I know many will argue with me that CDering isn't as convenient but I truly think it will be. My diapers are bought and paid for. I don't have to wonder week to week if I buy diapers or groceries or gas now. :)

I love my little girl in an adorable bumgenuis diaper with a pair of babylegs on, it's off the charts cute. I started because I wanted to know what was going to be next to my daughters bum. I continue and convince my friends to visit the Change 3 things link becuase even if we do use disposables sometimes, it's great to see the impact that using just 3 cloth diapers a day makes. It has led a couple of my friends to continue with some cloth rather than just throwing in the towel on it!
ReplyDeleteI registered on Facebook as well. :D
ReplyDeleteI chose to start using cloth to save money. I was going to have two little ones in diapers at the same time and was not about to spend double what I already was on disposables! I just wish I would have had the guts to do it from the very start with my daughter because I love them!

Oops, I posted on the Facebook page but here's what I said:
ReplyDeleteI chose to cloth diaper for so many reasons. I guess the main reason is that disposables are expensive, and I never wanted to be tempted to leave my baby in a wet diapers for too long to save money. I also cringe at throwing away so much paper and plastic, and cloth keeps my daughter clean and rash-free. I originally intended to use both cloth and disposables, but cloth diapering is so easy and fun that I ended up doing it full time!

Being good to the Earth was the main draw, but the long term money savings is nice too!
ReplyDeleteI started cloth to save money, now it is partly for that but mostly I love all the cute diapers.
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan on fb. We started cloth diapering to save money since I finally am able to be a stay at home mom. Boy, I sure wish I had done it with all my kids - we could have saved so much and it would have been much nicer on the environment.
ReplyDeleteI posted on facebook as well, but I'll copy it to here:
ReplyDeleteWe chose to cloth diaper full-time before our son was born moreso for the savings and for the health of my baby boy's skin. He's way too precious to have chemicals touch his hiney. The fact that it helps the environment is a big plus too. Not to mention they look way cuter on him than those plastic disposables did (we did newborn disposables for a short while). And because they're so cute, I get to have many conversations with other people about the benefits of cloth diapering. Hoping to spread the word!

I am choosing to CD because I think overall it will be better for our entire family!
ReplyDeletegood for baby, mother earth, and mama's purse!
ReplyDeleteI started using cloth diapers on my 2nd child b/c i was oblivious to the ease of them for my first. We mainly use them b/c of budget friendly reasons, but i am beginning to see the benefits of other reasons! By the way we use Flips and LOVE them!
ReplyDeletejessica@nave.ws
we mainly chose cloth for the money savings, but we also love the environmental benefits of cloth diapering.
ReplyDeleteWe started cloth diapering because my son had an awful rash that just would not go away. One day in cloth and he was significantly better. We continued to cloth diaper because it's better for him, better for the environment, cheaper, and so much cuter!
ReplyDeleteWe started cloth diapering because I just loved the way they looked. It had nothing to do with the environment or how much money I would save, I just loved them, and I also loved not having the chemicals against my little mans precious skin. Turns out, he has VERY sensitive skin just like his Momma and the sposies always make him have a rash. After doing more research in to cloth diapers, I found that I was not only saving tons of money (if I could quot adding to my stash) but also keeping waste out of our landfills. I also LOVE helping other moms see cloth diapers and showing them my little guys fluffy butt and talking them in to just trying a couple of my diapers out for a day or say to see if they like them, and wa-la.. they are converted!!! I love the flip cover I have now and would LOVE to have another to add to my collection!
ReplyDeletePosted on FB but am now unsure that's were I should post. Anyhow we started to cut costs we have a third on the way making for 2 in diapers. We didn't plan this and aren't really were we wanted to be finacially. I still haven't found a full time job after losing mine almost 2 years ago now. So while I have some seasonal work ( yah taxes!) we are building our stash. Hopefully this will help us exist on a single income for sometime.

We chose to cloth diaper because it is a healthier choice for our kids. We are on our 4th child in cloth, and I love it more with each child! Our newest little guy is in the NICU wearing cloth diapers. I love knowing he isn't getting all the chemicals of disposables. I'm a FB fan already :)

I love cloth diapers, especially the Flip system. They are the only thing that holds in my baby's explosive poop :) and it is less trash.
ReplyDeleteWe had been considering switching to cloth before our youngest was born. I am always looking for ways for my family to "make a little less mess" on the earth. I finally was able to financially make the switch to cloth 2 months ago and I am SO happy, my son is happy, and my kids love to help change his CD's.

ReplyDeleteWe chose to cloth diaper mostly for economic reasons, but I love that it is socially resposible too. I like it more than I thought I would and so does my husband. And I can't seem to stop buying them!
I chose to cloth diaper because of financial and environmental reasons. $500 bucks for 3 years of diapering is nothing! Plus, I can sell them when I'm done! :o)

I am cloth diapering for economic and environmental reasons. Disposables are so expensive and just add waste. I like knowing I'm not contributing to a landfill somewhere. I also like that cloth diapers are so much more gentle on baby.
ReplyDeleteOur decision to use cloth diapers was based on a combination of health/environmental concerns and cost savings.
ReplyDeleteI'm a facebook fan of Change 3 Things! I cloth diaper for the environment and also for my checkbook. I am totally addicted now and can't imagine using a paper diaper!!! aparker528 at gmail dot com

It was actually my husband's idea first because he didn't want all the chemicals in sposies against our baby. I totally agree with him and also like that we are cutting down on waste (plus saving money helps too!).
ReplyDeleteI started once I found out what was in disposables and also to save money and less waste. I am a facebook fan of change 3 things :) greenapple2646@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI planned on using cloth diapers from the start, but my daughter was born 5 weeks early at 4lb 3oz. With the shock of having her early and being in the hospital for two weeks, cloth diapers were the last thing I wanted to think about. But once our supply of disposables ran low, the cost of buying more scared me, so we started using cloth (by that time, she was over 9lbs). I am loving them. So I started using them because of the money factor, but they are so cute, I wouldn't pick anything else!!
ReplyDeleteI will start using cloth diapers once I have my baby this summer because I will save a bunch of money AND because babies just look so darn cute in their cloth diapers :)

I love cloth diapers for three reasons: cloth diapering can save HUGE amounts of money, I hate wasting resources (financial or natural) and reuse everything as much as possible, and paper/plastic/chemicals is very uncomfortable against tender tissue (try switching yourself to soft cotton "mama cloths" for a comparison of how cloth and sposies feel to babies.
ReplyDeleteThe main reason? Money! You can't deny the cost-effectiveness. And who doesn't want something natural against their baby's skin instead of chemicals? This is probably the one thing I'm looking forward to most for when the baby arrives (aside from just having a new little person in our family)!
ReplyDeleteI originally started with my twins for environmental reasons as well as for financial savings. Then I fell in love and #3 coming in a few weeks will never know anything else!
ReplyDeleteThe reason I got into cloth diapers was to save money. The "bonus" was that I was not lugging bag after bag of nasty trash to the curb every week and sending them on their way to a landfill.
ReplyDeleteWe chose to cloth diaper for the savings, environment, and for our daughter's precious baby bum!

Our main reason was the cost. We're just saving SO MUCH MONEY!!
ReplyDeleteI am a fan on facebook!
ReplyDeleteWe mainly started using cloth diapers to save money (and boy, do I enjoy saving the money!!)
It is also nice not having to deal the "diaper bomb" as we called it. I hated dealing with the diaper genie and nasty diapers!!

We started to use cloth diapers because of the cost savings and the environmental impact.
ReplyDeleteMy cousin got me interested in cloth diapers and gave me some of hers to try. I love them! The cost savings is great, knowing his diapers aren't filling up a landfill, and that my son hasn't had a diaper rash since I switched are all great reasons to switch! I am hooked!
ReplyDeletejlazette61705@yahoo.com
We chose to switch to cloth because we wouldn't have been able to afford disposables. Then we fell in love with them!
ReplyDeleteI started with cloth to save money, but now my selfish reason for continuing is that it seems more comforta le to my child. I started using momma cloth, and I had no idea how much it would reinforce my use of cloth diapers! I don't ever want to use a disposable pad again for me, and I don't want my son to have to use a disposable diaper!

I visited and "liked" the facebook page! This is so exciting! I wish there were even more venues to get the word out! I didn't even know there were great cloth diapers out there (as opposed to the ones my mom used on my baby sisters in the 80s) until I was expecting my sixth baby! I cringe to think of all the waste that came from my household! We started out with cloth for $$ reasons, but we have so many more wonderful reaons now! Cloth power!! :)
ReplyDeleteI love using cloth for the cost savings, the reduced environmental impact, the ability to choose the materials that are touching my baby's bum, and the cute factor!
ReplyDeleteI chose cloth once I realized that saving the environment would also save ME money! So many "Green" options are more expensive, but cloth diapers sure isn't!

I first became interested in CDing because of the monetary savings, but I am thrilled with all the other benefits (environmental, comfort, health, cuteness)
ReplyDeleteWe chose cloth diapers for many reasons. #1 because they are so much cheaper over all and #2 because they are so much cuter than other diapers. Who doesnt love a cute behind in a bright colored diaper? We couldnt resist!

I'll admit I initially considered cloth because of the cuteness factor and because it is a healthier option for our son. But as soon as I learned of the cost savings and the environmental impact, I was hooked! We LOVE our cloth and my only regret is not knowing about them when my 5 year old was in diapers!

ReplyDeleteI'm AAF of Change 3 Things! We started CDing mainly because of the cost. That it is better for the environment is an added bonus!

We considered cloth first for the cost savings. Now it's also time savings in the sense that we have never rushed out to Target b/c we were out of diapers. That's a relief. :)

I picked cloth to save money and help the enviroment win win
ReplyDeleteI started cloth diapering 14 years ago to save money and also because I didn't want all those chemicals from disposable diapers touching my baby's skin. Nowadays I do it more for the cuteness factor. :o)
ReplyDeleteI cloth diaper because of the cost savings, not wanting to add more disposables to land fills and because it's better for baby.
ReplyDeletecost savings!
ReplyDeleteI decided to do cloth for baby #2 because I hated seeing the waste with disposables from #1. I had friends doing cloth who told me how easy and cost effective it was so I started looking into it. Sadly baby #1 was 18 months by then and my hubby didn't understand the idea of it. But with baby #2 I won him over to the idea! I personally love it. I like not having to think about running out of diapers and making special trips to the store. Hubby still isn't won over 100% but he does like the savings at least.
ReplyDeleteI decided to do cloth diapers for out third child because of the green impact - both the reduction of the waste we generate and the idea that by not buying disposables I am helping reduce the chemicals used in the manufacturing process. I also love that they are cute (which helped me convince the hubby) and EASY! Nobody told me how easy it would be!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love that I'm diapering my child for so much less $!
I am using cloth diapers because they save money. I was super excited to use them because my friend Bonnie has loaned me her stash of newborn fitted diapers and covers, so I didn't even have to pay for them! The fact that I'm not contributing to the landfill just adds more value!

ReplyDeleteI chose to cloth diaper because my son was a preemie(born at 32 weeks) and he was and still in allergic to disposable diapers and gets a horrible rash from them. I also like that its more cost effecient and environmentally friendly

Our main reason for using cloth was to avoid all the chemicals that are in disposables. The next runner up was the environmental inpact that disposables make. I only wish we would have known how easy cloth was when we had our first child. If I had known what we do now, both kids would have used cloth from birth!

I started using cloth for the cost savings - and I love them! It is surprisingly easy!
ReplyDeleteI plan on using Flip CD for the cost savings! I can't believe people spend that much on diapers, when this is way better for baby!

I originally started with cloth for the cost effective manner and the bonus is saving the planet!!
